The Office of Classroom Management (OCM) is committed to providing simple, reliable instructional technology in all general purpose classrooms. As learning modalities evolve, it’s clear that the use of conferencing and/or recording software in any general purpose classroom is increasing and provides a connection to those who are remote or need to review content later.
Prior to June 2020, 84 general purpose classrooms were equipped with cameras and microphones to provide signals for conferencing or recording use. The investment outlined here builds on last year’s class capture and webinar equipment updates, ensuring that all 327 general purpose classrooms will have tools needed to share audio and video.
Funding has been approved and upgrades, as outlined below, will be completed throughout the 2021-2022 academic year and into summer 2022 as equipment arrives and room availability allows. Please email classrm@umn.edu if you have any questions.
- Reconfigure and update technology to provide all conferencing signals via the USB camera and audio cable.
- Update document cameras in 94 classrooms, providing HD video of written annotations, markerboard content, or potentially students seated in the classroom.
- Revisit deferred upgrades for 27 classrooms, replacing outdated equipment past its usable life to ensure reliability.
- Update control equipment in 6 distance learning classrooms so that microphone and cameras that previously required operator assistance can be available to all.
- Provide cameras in 11 rooms currently without any camera by adding an Audio/video bar.
